"No one should have to suffer or feel stigmatized by their headaches. Together, we can make a difference."
Fred Cohen, MD
Like many others, Dr. Cohen experienced frequent and severe headaches throughout his life, unaware that they were migraine attacks. After years of suffering and unsuccessful attempts to find relief through various doctors, he finally consulted a headache specialist and received transformative care that allowed him to live free from debilitating headaches. This profound personal experience inspired Dr. Cohen to transition from his role as an internist to become a headache specialist, dedicated to providing the same life-changing care he once received and helping patients find relief from their headaches.
Dr. Fred Cohen is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is one of the few headache specialists in the country trained in both Internal Medicine and Headache Medicine. Dr. Cohen received his medical degree from Stony Brook University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Headache Medicine at the Jefferson Headache Center, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Dr. Cohen’s research interests include treatments for chronic migraine and evaluating the epidemiology, burden, and impact of migraine. His research has been published in several medical journals and textbooks, including Headache, Cephalalgia, Stroke, Current Pain and Headache Reports, Biodrugs, Pain Medicine, and Neurotherapeutics. Prior to medical school, Dr. Cohen performed research in materials chemistry and studied under Nobel Laureate M.S. Whittingham at Binghamton University. Dr. Cohen serves on the editorial boards for Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain and Current Pain and Headache Reports. He has presented at several headache conferences and societies, including the American Headache Society, the International Headache Society, the Headache Cooperative of the Northeast, the Migraine World Summit, and the Migraine Trust Symposium.
