Hypnic headache
is a rare type of headache disorder that exclusively occurs during sleep, often waking individuals in the middle of the night. Hypnic headaches usually last between 15 minutes to three hours and can happen several times a week. They tend to affect individuals over the age of 50, although younger cases have been reported. The pain is typically a dull or throbbing sensation and may affect one or both sides of the head.
