Vitamin C

Vitamin C, sometimes referred to as ascorbic acid, is essential for immune system support and skin health, among other aspects of general health maintenance. The possible advantages of vitamin C for migraineurs may go beyond these conventional functions. According to some research, oxidative stress—which is thought to play a role in the development of migraine attacks—can be prevented in part by the antioxidant qualities of vitamin C. Vitamin C may lessen inflammation and lessen the chance of migraine episodes by scavenging free radicals.

Although vitamin C hasn't been thoroughly researched as a migraine treatment, its anti-inflammatory properties might offer an additional method of symptom management. There is evidence linking persistent inflammation in the brain to vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin C also helps the body produce neurotransmitters like serotonin, which are important for controlling mood and pain perception—both of which are frequently involved in migraine triggers.

Although vitamin C might not be a sufficient treatment for migraine on its own, it might be an important component of a more comprehensive strategy for managing and preventing migraines. Including foods high in Vitamin C, such leafy greens, citrus fruits, and strawberries, in a balanced diet can help maintain brain function in general. A common dose of Vitamin C for general health purposes is typically around 65 to 90 milligrams (mg) per day for adults, with an upper limit of 2,000 mg per day to avoid potential side effects. Migraine and other severe headaches can be treated both with medications and dietary changes. For more information on my services, click here.
